Why outlines make sense.
As I was contemplating making things worse for one of my characters, I realized that I was making it not just bad, but impossible. I had too many complications. My most recently one moved the series along.
Time to go back and remove an earlier complication. I could have discovered that while writing the novel, but having discovered it during the outlining process, I don’t have many words to delete to change it. The real annoying thing is that I had thought about having her already moved but decided that the frustrations of moving homes would be useful. Still, I’m glad I’m changing it during the outlining process rather than after I had many good scenes written.
