We visited the Van Stiehl winery at Algoma around 3:00 on July 20, 2019 and were impressed by the ramp leading to the histoic building. They also had good wine tastings, with a variety of reds and whites, many that were not cherry or other Door County fruit based.
Von Stiehl winery is located at 115 Navarino Street in Algoma, WI. The main building, with a tasting room is on the National Register of Historic Places. The winery also features a 10,000 sf production facility and a spacious outdoor terrace with Lake Michigan views.
They have a variety of tastings. In July of 2019, the cost was
- $9 for premier tasting, 5 samplings of wine ranging in price from $25-$50,
- $5 for select tasting, 5 samplings of wine ranging in price from $10-$20
- Complimentary tastings, 5 wines to choose from, although most are sweet.
There is a gift shop that sells wine-related items. Cheese platters are also available.
