To NaNoWriMo or not to NaNo? While I often enjoy throwing myself into November writing craziness, that desire hasn’t been as strong lately. I have been making progress on my novel working at my own pace. And since I’m adding to an existing story, and writing the second half of the novel, I have to pay attention to what I’ve already written.
But as the daylight decreases day by day, I recall how gloomy November can be. Having a daily goal of writing 1667 words, and the occasional company of other writers online, can make the month go faster.
Also, I don’t want to lose the ability to write a crazy amount of words in one day. So, it might be nice to stretch myself and aim for a couple of 5,000 word count days during November. It does make it easier to reach the 50,000 word count goal. And, I can start investigating ideas for my next novel as well as work on the current one. That said, I’ll be a rebel since I’m not about to stop work on the one that I’ve been plugging away on for the last several months. Nor do I think I need to try to finish it before November 1st. The idea is to make NaNoWriMo improve my writing practice, not sabotage it.
I thought I was going to weigh the pros and cons carefully, but after talking with my husband, I booked a place by the beach for November 1 – 4th with the idea that I could begin the month of writing while looking at the ocean, one of my favorite places to write. So, guess I’m doing NaNo!
